Indian Railways sanctions Rs 1,311 crore for rail projects in Bihar, West Bengal, Jharkhand

The Ministry of Railways has approved multiple infrastructure projects worth Rs 1,311 crore across Bihar, West Bengal, and Jharkhand. These initiatives aim to reduce congestion, enhance line capacity, improve safety, and enable faster movement of both passenger and freight trains.

Among the approved projects is the doubling of the Mansi-Saharsa railway line in Bihar, with a sanctioned budget of Rs 499 crore. This section, currently a single line under the East Central Railway, handles heavy traffic—approximately 48 passenger trains daily and freight trains carrying essential commodities such as wheat, maize, cement, fertilisers, and sugar.

The doubling project is expected to significantly boost operational efficiency, reduce delays, and support economic growth by improving connectivity for freight and passengers in the region. While specific details of other projects under the Rs 1,311 crore approval were not immediately provided, the overall investment underscores the government's focus on modernising rail infrastructure in eastern India.

Officials noted that these developments align with the broader goal of expanding the railway network's capacity to meet rising demand, particularly in states that serve as key corridors for agricultural and industrial goods.
