Hyderabad's LV Prasad Eye Institute Reconfirmed as WHO Collaborating Centre Until 2030

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has redesignated the LV Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI) in Hyderabad as a WHO Collaborating Centre for the Prevention of Blindness, extending its tenure until 2030. This marks a renewal of the institute's designation, which was first granted in 2001, completing 25 years as a partner in global eye care efforts.

LVPEI is one of only 11 eye care institutions worldwide chosen by the WHO Director-General to support the organisation's global programmes on eye care and blindness prevention. As a Collaborating Centre, LVPEI will provide technical and operational assistance to advance universal health coverage through integrated, people-centred eye care.

The institute's contributions will include expertise in public health ophthalmology, epidemiology, and health systems. Its role involves generating evidence for best practices, strengthening the eye care workforce, and developing clinical and public health guidelines. This partnership reinforces LVPEI's commitment to reducing preventable blindness and improving eye health globally.
