Maa Kauvery: Chennai Gets New 120-Bed Hospital for Women and Children
Chennai's healthcare landscape has expanded with the inauguration of Maa Kauvery, a dedicated 120-bed hospital for women and children, on Radial Road. Health Minister K.G. Arunraj formally opened the facility, which is part of the Kauvery Group of Hospitals. The new hospital aims to provide integrated, round-the-clock care across maternity, gynaecology, fertility, neonatology, paediatrics, and paediatric critical care.
The hospital offers 24/7 maternity services, including management of normal and high-risk pregnancies, dedicated birthing suites, and comprehensive antenatal, delivery, and postnatal care. Specialised services in foetal medicine and advanced laparoscopic gynaecological surgery are also available. For couples seeking fertility treatment, the hospital provides intrauterine insemination (IUI) and in vitro fertilisation (IVF) under one roof.
For newborns, Maa Kauvery is equipped with a Level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), designed to care for critically ill and premature babies, including those born before 30 weeks of gestation or weighing less than 1.5 kg. The unit is staffed with round-the-clock neonatal specialists and offers respiratory support and advanced life-support facilities.
Paediatric care at the hospital includes a dedicated Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), 24/7 emergency services, and specialised clinics in paediatric pulmonology, nephrology, haematology, and neonatology. The facility also addresses gynaecological health across a woman's lifespan, covering menstrual health, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), menopause, and other conditions. Preventive care, counselling, gynaecologic oncology, and breast health services, including mammography, are part of the comprehensive offering.
D. Senguttuvan, co-founder and executive director of Kauvery Group of Hospitals, said the Chennai facility builds on the experience of the 200-bed Maa Kauvery hospital in Tiruchi, which has been operating since 2024. He noted that the new hospital would provide an integrated model of care, combining specialised expertise, advanced infrastructure, and round-the-clock services for women and children.

The inauguration was attended by S. Chandrakumar, founder and executive chairman; Manivannan Selvaraj, founder and managing director; Aravindan Selvaraj, co-founder and executive director; and D. Senguttuvan, co-founder and executive director, among other dignitaries.
The establishment of a dedicated facility for women and children comes at a time when specialised care is increasingly recognised as crucial for improving maternal and child health outcomes. By offering a continuum of care from conception through childhood, Maa Kauvery aims to reduce the need for referrals to multiple facilities and provide a seamless experience for patients.
