Hyderabad Airport Asks Flyers to Arrive Early for Independence Day Security
Hyderabad's Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) has issued an advisory urging passengers to reach the airport well ahead of their scheduled departures, as enhanced security measures are in place ahead of Independence Day on August 15, 2026.
The advisory, released on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at 09:10 hours via the airport's official social media handle, said: “Due to heightened security measures, passengers may experience longer wait times at the airport. Passengers are also encouraged to plan their commute in advance and factor in extra travel time to ensure a smooth journey.”
The airport management has requested travellers to factor in additional time for security checks and other formalities, as the increased vigilance is expected to slow down normal processing. This is a standard precautionary measure adopted by airports across India during significant national events, including Independence Day and Republic Day, to ensure the safety and security of all passengers and personnel.
In addition, the advisory stated that passengers requiring transportation assistance can approach the transport help desk located near Aero Plaza. This service is intended to help those with mobility issues or heavy luggage navigate the terminal more comfortably.
Authorities have appealed to the public to cooperate with security personnel and follow the instructions issued at the airport. Passengers are also advised to keep their travel documents and identity proofs readily accessible for verification. Delays due to security procedures are expected, and early arrival will help mitigate the risk of missing flights.
While the advisory specifically addresses security-related delays, it also highlights the importance of planning the commute to the airport, considering potential traffic congestion in the city. Travellers have been urged to monitor real-time traffic updates and leave home with sufficient time to spare.
This advisory comes amid a nationwide security alert in the run-up to the 79th Independence Day celebrations. Similar precautionary measures are typically implemented at other major airports in the country, though passengers are advised to check with their respective airlines for any specific instructions.
For the latest updates, passengers can follow the official social media channels of RGIA or visit the airport's website. The airport authority has also set up help desks at various points within the terminal to assist passengers with any queries or concerns.
