Home Minister Anitha Directs Police to Protect Free Speech, Act Against Hate Speech

Home Minister V. Anitha on Monday directed the police to safeguard freedom of expression, democratic discussions, and lawful criticisms as guaranteed by the Constitution. Reviewing the law and order situation virtually, she instructed officers to take firm action against those spreading unlawful and hateful content.

Ms. Anitha highlighted the success of 'Operation Trace', under which nearly 9,000 women and girls have been traced in the state. She noted that the investigation rate for sexual offences stands at about 90%, and through the Sahayog portal, 12,653 illegal URL links have been removed.

Police officials reported that the Preventive Detention Act had been invoked against 131 accused under the PIT NDPS Act, and about 30,000 acres of land have been shifted to alternative crops as part of crop diversification efforts.

The Home Minister also reviewed the performance of the EAGLE and Sakthi teams with concerned officers, ensuring continued focus on law and order maintenance.
