Election Commission Extends Voter List Revision in Andhra Pradesh, Haryana

The Election Commission of India has extended the timeline for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Andhra Pradesh and Haryana, according to official letters sent to the Chief Electoral Officers of both states on Tuesday.

The SIR is being conducted in three phases across the country. Phase 3, which began on May 14, covers 16 states and Union Territories. The revision aims to ensure accurate and up-to-date voter lists by adding eligible voters, deleting duplicate or deceased entries, and correcting errors.

In both Andhra Pradesh and Haryana, the house-to-house enumeration phase — where Booth Level Officers visit households to collect data — will now continue until July 24, instead of the earlier deadline of July 14. The draft electoral rolls for these states, originally scheduled for publication on July 21, will now be published on July 31.

The final publication of the updated voter lists in both states has been pushed to October 3, a delay of one week from the original date.

The states and Union Territories covered under Phase 3 of the SIR include Delhi, Odisha, Mizoram, Sikkim, Manipur, Uttarakhand, Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh, Telangana, Punjab, Karnataka, Meghalaya, Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Nagaland, Tripura, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu. The combined electorate of these regions is approximately 36.73 crore voters.

As of now, draft voter lists have been published for Odisha, Manipur, Mizoram, Sikkim, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu. In these five areas, a total of 23,82,014 names — or 6.39% of the 3.72 crore names on the rolls — have been deleted during the revision process.

Once Phase 3 is completed, the nationwide SIR exercise will cover all states and Union Territories except Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh. The Election Commission said the schedule for these remaining regions will be announced later, after considering the completion of Phase 2 of the Census and weather conditions in snow-bound areas.
