Dhurandhar tops Netflix's non-English films with 37 million views

According to Netflix's biannual engagement report released on Friday, the Indian film 'Dhurandhar' has become the platform's most-watched non-English film globally, garnering 37 million views in the first half of 2026.

Directed by Aditya Dhar, the action thriller follows an Indian spy infiltrating terrorist networks in Pakistan. The film features an ensemble cast led by Ranveer Singh, alongside R Madhavan, Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, and Arjun Rampal.

Netflix's report, which covers viewing data from January to June 2026, noted that India recorded its biggest-ever first half on the platform in terms of viewing. Among acquired Indian film titles, 'Dhurandhar' led the pack with 37 million views, preceding the film's earlier recognition as the most-watched film on OTT in Ormax Media's mid-year streaming report.

The report did not specify the number of subscribers or detailed demographic data, but it highlighted the growing global appetite for Indian content on the streaming service. 'Dhurandhar' is a Hindi-language film, and its performance underscores the increasing reach of Indian cinema beyond domestic markets.

Netflix's engagement report is part of the company's commitment to transparency, providing aggregated viewing metrics for its original and licensed content. The report includes data for titles that accumulated at least 50,000 hours of viewing time during the period.

While the film's success is notable, it is important to consider that viewing figures are self-reported by Netflix and may not account for factors such as repeat viewings or partial watching. The company defines a 'view' as total hours viewed divided by the runtime of the title.

'Dhurandhar' was released theatrically earlier in 2026 before its streaming debut. The film received mixed to positive reviews from critics, with praise for its action sequences and performances, but some criticism for its plot conveniences.

15 years on, ZNMD's aspirational travel dream highlights India's affordability gap

The film's characters, all financially secure, represent a privilege that many viewers cannot access, yet the story presented it as a universal path.
