Harry, Meghan Reportedly Moving Back to UK This Month, Children to Start School
Reports in the British and American media suggest that Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, are preparing to move back to Britain this month, nearly six years after stepping down from royal duties and relocating to the United States.
According to People magazine and The Telegraph newspaper, the couple will return with their children, Prince Archie, aged 7, and Princess Lilibet, aged 5, for an extended stay. The children are reportedly set to begin school in Britain in September.
Neither Harry's spokesperson nor Buckingham Palace responded to requests for comment. However, a source described as close to the couple reportedly confirmed the accuracy of the stories. The Telegraph added that the family will not reside in a royal residence, and their status will remain unchanged as non-working royals, in line with the arrangement agreed with the late Queen Elizabeth when they stepped back in March 2020.
Harry, now 41, and Meghan, 45, married in a ceremony at Windsor Castle in 2018. The union was seen at the time as a modernising moment for the monarchy. Within two years, however, the couple announced their intention to give up official royal duties and move to North America. They later settled in Montecito, California, where media reports placed the 2020 purchase price of their home at $14.7 million.
In the years that followed, the couple made a series of public statements critical of royal life and the monarchy, including television interviews, a documentary series for Netflix and a memoir by Harry titled "Spare". The book contained strong criticism of his father, King Charles, and his brother, Prince William, further straining ties.
Harry also expressed anger over changes to his security arrangements by the British government, saying the lack of automatic police protection made it unsafe to bring his children to Britain. The matter remains the subject of legal proceedings.
Recent signs have pointed to a cautious thaw in relations with the King. In September, father and son met briefly for the first time in 20 months. Last month, Harry, Meghan and their children visited the UK, and King Charles saw Archie and Lilibet for the first time since 2022.
However, according to The Telegraph, the King only became aware of the family's plans to relocate on Sunday. While Harry's relationship with his father may be improving, he is reported to remain barely on speaking terms with his brother, Prince William.
The reports have not been independently verified, and no official announcement has been made. The move, if confirmed, would mark a significant change for the couple, who had cited privacy concerns as one reason for leaving the UK.
