Delhi launches AI portal to monitor dust at construction sites

The Delhi government has launched an artificial intelligence-powered portal to monitor dust control measures at construction and demolition sites. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta introduced the 'Dust Portal 2.0' on Monday, developed by the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC).

The portal applies to sites measuring 500 square yards or more. It enables project proponents to carry out self-assessments while strengthening data-driven monitoring and enforcement, according to a government statement. The system uses AI to assess five key dust control parameters, making monitoring more objective and uniform.

Ms. Gupta stated that the fight against air pollution requires both strict regulations and modern administrative systems. She said the portal would bring significant changes in how dust pollution is monitored and managed. The government is using AI and digital technology to simplify compliance, making monitoring effective and enforcement transparent.

The portal maps construction sites accurately and identifies the nearest air quality monitoring station to each site. Based on pollution levels, the system automatically issues yellow, orange, and red alerts to help agencies take timely action. The government also plans to digitise the challan process, allowing notices and fines to be issued directly through the portal, reducing irregularities and inconvenience.

Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa said the AI-based system enables real-time compliance monitoring, issues immediate alerts for violations, and ensures strict action against repeat offenders.

The Union Home Ministry has defended its anti-corruption bills against opposition claims that they target non-BJP state governments.
