Delhi Health Workers Strike for Pay Benefits, Over 500 Participate
Around 500-550 doctors and healthcare workers employed under the Delhi State Health Mission (DSHM) held a one-day strike on Friday, demanding the implementation of recommendations from the 7th Pay Commission and other salary benefits.
The protesters gathered outside Vikas Bhawan near Sushruta Trauma Centre after a delegation failed to meet with either the Delhi Chief Minister or the Health Minister. Many participants covered their heads with scarves, towels, and caps to shield themselves from the sweltering heat, while others carried umbrellas.
According to members of the Health Mission Doctors’ Welfare Association, a delegation had requested meetings with the Chief Minister and the Health Minister, but both officials were unavailable, prompting the continuation of the strike.
The workers are seeking better job security and adherence to the 7th Pay Commission, which outlines pay scales and allowances for government employees. The strike highlights ongoing concerns about working conditions and compensation in the health sector.
