Delhi government sets eligibility for women's financial aid: Rs 2,500 monthly, 10-year residency required

The Delhi government has finalised the eligibility criteria for its flagship financial assistance scheme for women, now renamed the Delhi Laxmi Yojana. The scheme, a key poll promise of the BJP, will provide monthly aid of Rs 2,500 to eligible women from economically weaker sections.

Among the conditions: the beneficiary must be aged 21 to 60 years, a resident of Delhi for at least 10 years, from a family with an annual income not exceeding Rs 2.5 lakh, and neither the applicant nor any family member should have a criminal record. Only one woman per family, preferably the eldest eligible, will be enrolled.

The scheme was approved on March 8, International Women's Day, and is set to be launched on Rakshabandhan (August 28). A budget of Rs 5,100 crore has been allocated. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, who also holds the Women and Child Development portfolio, chaired a high-level meeting on Monday to finalise details.

Officials stated that women already receiving government pensions or from families owning a four-wheeler are not eligible. The government estimates 20–22 lakh women will benefit. An online registration portal has been developed for applications.

Gupta said the scheme aims to provide financial security and empower women, enabling them to contribute to their families and society. She emphasised transparent and time-bound implementation.
