Delhi Environment Minister Orders District Magistrates to Map Pollution Hotspots
Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa on Thursday directed all District Magistrates (DMs) to map pollution hotspots and adopt a coordinated approach to improve the Capital's air quality.
Addressing a review meeting on air pollution, Mr. Sirsa said, “Dust pollution remains one of the most significant contributors to Delhi’s deteriorating air quality. Every DM must proactively identify sources of dust generation and work with all departments concerned to implement effective mitigation measures.”
He emphasised that all sources of dust—including damaged roads, construction activity, and poor maintenance—must be addressed through “coordinated and result-oriented action.” The directive comes as Delhi grapples with persistent air quality challenges, particularly during the winter months when pollutants accumulate.
The minister urged officials to adopt a comprehensive approach, involving multiple agencies, to ensure sustained improvement in air quality. The mapping of hotspots is expected to help target interventions more effectively and reduce the health impact on residents.
