CPM Alleges Forced Land Acquisition for Amaravati Road Project

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Monday accused the Andhra Pradesh government and the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) of forcibly acquiring agricultural land in Undavalli village for the Seed Axis Road project. The party alleged violations of due process and broken assurances to farmers.

A CPM delegation led by State secretariat member Ch. Babu Rao visited the affected areas and later addressed a press conference. Mr. Babu Rao claimed that authorities used bulldozers and police to take possession of land despite pending court cases, destroying standing crops and using force against protesting women.

According to the party, farmers are not opposed to the Seed Axis Road but object to the acquisition of additional agricultural land beyond what was originally agreed. The CPM leader also questioned the compensation offered, alleging it was far below prevailing market rates.

The party accused the coalition government of abandoning its earlier pro-farmer stand and prioritising the interests of contractors and investors. The CPM demanded an immediate halt to the acquisition, compensation at market value, payment for crop losses, action against officials for alleged excesses, and discussions with affected farmers.

The party stated that the agitation would continue until the farmers' demands are addressed, according to a press release.
