Chennai: Labourer dies after touching electrified pillar box on Anna Salai

A 40-year-old labourer died after coming into contact with a live electrical pillar box on Anna Salai late Saturday night, police said. The deceased, identified as R. Ramesh, a resident of Lathuram Street, had returned home in an inebriated state and was sleeping outside his house.

According to the Anna Salai police, Ramesh later moved to a vacant plot opposite his residence and touched a pillar box, resulting in a fatal electric shock. He died on the spot. Authorities have sent the body to the Government Rajiv Gandhi Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Local residents expressed concerns over the condition of electrical infrastructure in the area, calling for better maintenance and safety measures to prevent such tragedies. Police have registered a case of accidental death and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
