T.N. to enable home-based document registration with new 'Anywhere Registration' facility
Tamil Nadu Finance Minister Marie Wilson on Wednesday announced a new facility, 'Anywhere Registration', as part of the government's reforms to the Registration Department. Presenting the Revised Budget Estimates for 2026-27 in the state Assembly, she said the facility would allow citizens to register documents from the convenience of their homes.
The minister described the Registration Department as the custodian of public records and said the government had recognised its vital role. The reforms aim to provide seamless, convenient, and hassle-free registration of documents, while curbing fraudulent practices that often affect property buyers.
Ms. Wilson emphasised that the government is prioritising digital innovation and citizen convenience. She stated that the initiative is intended to make property registration effortless and corruption-free, with necessary amendments to the Registration Act and Rules proposed in line with Supreme Court judgments and best practices adopted by leading states. These amendments are expected to lay a robust legal foundation for the new system.
The minister outlined a phased transition to a completely paperless and presence-less digital authentication system. She assured that this transition would not compromise the legal validity or authenticity of any transaction. The move is part of broader efforts to modernise public service delivery and reduce physical interface between citizens and officials.
The announcement comes amid ongoing digital initiatives across state government departments. The 'Anywhere Registration' facility is seen as a step towards greater transparency and ease of doing business, particularly in the real estate sector, where documentation is often time-consuming.
