CBI Raids 26 Locations Across 11 States in BRO Fund Misappropriation Probe

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted searches at 26 locations across 11 states and Union Territories on Monday, July 6, 2026, in connection with four cases related to alleged misappropriation of funds belonging to the Border Roads Organisation (BRO).

The searches were carried out in Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Delhi, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Maharashtra, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, and Nagaland. The agency has registered cases against ten officers of the ranks of Lieutenant Colonel, Major, and Engineer, as well as private individuals.

According to the CBI, the cases involve irregularities in the deployment of casual labourers and the release of payments in the names of fake casual labourers under Project Vijayak and Project Yojak in the Union Territory of Ladakh. The four First Information Reports were registered based on criminal complaints filed by the Union Ministry of Defence, following an internal inquiry conducted by the Technical Board of Officers of the BRO.

The alleged offences include misappropriation of government funds, cheating, forgery, criminal breach of trust, and criminal conspiracy under the Indian Penal Code, as well as criminal misconduct and bribery under the Prevention of Corruption Act. During the searches, the CBI seized several incriminating documents and digital evidence.

The Border Roads Organisation, under the Ministry of Defence, is responsible for the construction and maintenance of roads in border areas. This investigation highlights concerns over financial irregularities in defence infrastructure projects.
