BJP Urges Governor's Action Over Private Individuals in CM's Official Meeting

A delegation of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) met Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi on Monday to demand action over the presence of two private individuals in a recent official meeting chaired by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin. The BJP termed the incident a 'transgression' of constitutional norms.

The delegation, led by state BJP president K. Annamalai, submitted a memorandum to the Governor, alleging that the two individuals were not part of the official delegation and their presence in a sensitive government meeting compromised the integrity of the proceedings. The BJP leaders argued that such actions violate the principles of transparency and accountability in governance.

According to the memorandum, the two individuals were present during a review meeting on development projects, raising questions about their credentials and the purpose of their inclusion. The BJP sought an inquiry and appropriate action against those responsible.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Annamalai said, 'Allowing private individuals into official government meetings is a serious breach of protocol. It undermines the sanctity of the office and sets a dangerous precedent. We have urged the Governor to investigate the matter and take necessary steps.'

The ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) dismissed the allegations, stating that the individuals were part of a delegation representing a local community and had been invited by the Chief Minister for a specific discussion. A party spokesperson said, 'The BJP is clutching at straws. The meeting was about resolving local issues, and the presence of community representatives is standard practice.'

Political analysts note that the incident comes amid heightened tensions between the BJP and the DMK over various issues, including the delimitation of Lok Sabha constituencies and the use of Hindi. The Governor's role as the constitutional head of the state has been a point of contention, with the DMK accusing him of acting as an agent of the Centre.

The Governor's office has not yet issued a statement on the memorandum. The BJP's move is seen as an attempt to keep pressure on the state government and assert its stance on adherence to constitutional procedures.
