Assam Rifles Jawan Killed, Four Injured in IED Blast in Nagaland
One Assam Rifles personnel was killed and four others were injured in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast in Nagaland's Chumoukedima district on Monday, a senior police official confirmed. The explosion is suspected to have targeted a vehicle of the Assam Rifles during an operational movement, according to PRO Defence Col Amit Shukla.
Security forces have launched a search operation in the area to track down those responsible. The injured personnel have been shifted to a medical facility for treatment. Further investigation is underway, the official added.
The identity of the deceased and the injured has not been released pending notification of next of kin. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.
The Assam Rifles, a paramilitary force under the operational control of the Indian Army, has been deployed in Nagaland for decades to counter insurgency and maintain internal security. The region has witnessed intermittent violence from various armed groups, though peace talks have been ongoing with several factions.
This incident comes amid a broader push for peace in the northeastern states, with the central government engaging in dialogue with multiple insurgent groups. The blast underscores the fragile security situation in parts of Nagaland, where IED attacks have been a recurring threat against security forces.
Authorities have cordoned off the blast site and are conducting forensic analysis to determine the type of explosive used. Additional reinforcements have been deployed to prevent any further escalation.
