Apple opens Siri AI to public with iOS 27 beta release
Apple has released the public beta of iOS 27, allowing users to test its new Siri AI voice assistant ahead of a wider launch expected in the autumn. For the first time, the general public can experience the more conversational and capable assistant that was first demonstrated at Apple's developer conference last month.
Users with compatible iPhone models can download the iOS 27 public beta. However, access to Siri AI itself is limited to supported devices and may require joining a waitlist, Apple said.
Siri AI represents Apple's major entry into the competitive field of artificial intelligence, where it currently trails rivals such as OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google. At its Worldwide Developers Conference in June, Apple described the revamped voice assistant as a 'much more capable assistant' that can help users find information and complete tasks on iPhones and other Apple devices.
According to Apple, Siri AI can perform tasks such as checking concert dates, setting reminders to buy tickets, and providing directions to pick up a friend en route to a concert venue. A new camera mode allows Siri to identify objects in the user's view and supply relevant details, such as nutritional information for a plate of food.
