Apple Maps to Restrict Ads for Home Services and Crypto ATMs in Upcoming Platform
Apple has quietly released the advertising policies for its upcoming Apple Maps ad platform, revealing a more curated approach than competitors like Google. The company has banned several business categories from placing ads, including home services and cryptocurrency ATMs.
Apple has not officially announced a launch date beyond stating that ads will arrive this summer in the United States and Canada. However, newly published advertiser documentation and Maps-specific policies suggest the rollout is imminent.
According to Apple's updated Advertising Services policy, effective July 14, businesses offering home services—such as plumbing, electrical work, locksmith services, HVAC, pest control, roofing, and general contracting—are prohibited from advertising through Apple Maps. Additionally, cryptocurrency ATMs and other financial services may face similar restrictions, reflecting Apple's focus on user trust and safety.
This move differentiates Apple from Google Maps, which allows a wider range of advertisers. Apple's curated approach aims to ensure that only relevant and reputable businesses can promote their services within the Maps app.
