Andhra Pradesh sets 15% GSDP growth target with data-driven governance
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has announced a target of 15% Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) growth as part of a new governance roadmap focused on data-driven administration and efficient public service delivery. The announcement was made during a meeting with ministers, secretaries, and department heads at the State Secretariat on Tuesday.
Naidu stated that Andhra Pradesh has become the first state in India to institutionalise Monthly Economic Reports (MERs) to track GSDP growth, revenue collections, departmental performance, and administrative efficiency. These reports are intended to facilitate evidence-based policymaking, improve accountability, and enable continuous monitoring of governance outcomes.
Emphasising the state's industrial strategy, Naidu said Andhra Pradesh aims to transform from an agriculture-based economy into an industrial hub by leveraging regional strengths. He cited horticulture and mineral resources in Rayalaseema, aquaculture along the coast, and value addition to minerals such as rare earth elements, silica, and granite through industrial processing. He stressed that sound policies must be backed by effective implementation.
On governance reforms, the Chief Minister directed departments to clear pending cases in the Public Grievance Redressal System (PGRS), particularly those related to land. He said the government is continuing the distribution of digitally authenticated pattadar passbooks under the resurvey programme and called for legal and procedural reforms to strengthen grievance redressal.
Naidu noted that the use of artificial intelligence in governance and revenue administration has contributed to a 24% increase in revenue collections this year. He pointed out that Andhra Pradesh has recorded 10.75% GSDP growth and urged officials to work towards achieving the 15% target.
The Chief Minister also directed senior officials to spend more time in the field to better understand public concerns. Reaffirming the government's infrastructure agenda, he said the Polavaram Project will be completed by March 2027, with Godavari water reaching Anakapalli through the Left Main Canal by August 14. The first phase of the Veligonda Project is scheduled to be dedicated to the nation on September 1.
Naidu said 36 irrigation projects are being implemented on a priority basis and added that the Monthly Economic Reports will serve as an important tool for monitoring governance and strengthening accountability.
