Ambedkar Statue Vandalised in Kaushambi, Police Reinstall and Investigate

Jajouli and adjoining villages in Uttar Pradesh's Kaushambi district witnessed tension after a statue of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar was vandalised by unknown persons early on Friday, June 19, 2026. The statue, located in the Paschim Shareera police station area, was found damaged by local residents, most of whom belong to Dalit communities.

Villagers staged a sit-in at the site, demanding immediate action against those responsible. Police officers arrived at the scene and reinstalled the statue, persuading the demonstrators to end their protest after assuring them of a thorough investigation and that such an incident would not recur. A significant police presence remains in the area to maintain peace.

A case has been registered against unknown individuals under relevant sections of the law. Senior police officials have inspected the spot and are examining CCTV footage and other electronic evidence. Circle Officer (CO) Kaushambi Janeshwar Prasad Pandey said, 'The statue has been reinstalled, and we are working to ensure the early arrest of the culprits.'

The incident has drawn reactions from political parties, with some opposition leaders alleging a pattern of attacks on Ambedkar statues in Uttar Pradesh. However, no official statement has been made by the state government beyond the police response.

Authorities urge the public to remain calm and allow the investigation to proceed. The police have assured that all measures will be taken to prevent such acts and ensure justice.
