Abhishek Banerjee Submits Voice Sample to Court Amid Probe Over Remarks

Trinamool Congress general secretary Abhishek Banerjee on Wednesday appeared before the Bidhannagar City Court to submit his voice sample, complying with a court order linked to an FIR alleging inflammatory remarks during the West Bengal Assembly election campaign.

The voice sample submission follows a directive from the Calcutta High Court, which had on July 8 granted Banerjee interim protection from arrest on the condition that he cooperate with the investigation. Justice Saugata Bhattacharyya had specifically asked why Banerjee had not yet provided his voice sample and set July 15 as the deadline.

The case stems from a complaint that Banerjee made a statement about using blaring DJ music to threaten the Bharatiya Janata Party during the election campaign. The Calcutta High Court had noted that Banerjee's counsel stated his client did not dispute the authenticity of the voice recording in question.

On Wednesday, heavy police deployment was seen outside the court, and Banerjee was escorted inside under strong security. Authorities cited apprehensions of eggs being thrown at the Trinamool leader.

Following his party's defeat in the West Bengal Assembly elections, Banerjee has faced multiple cases, including allegations of forging MLAs' signatures and misuse of the Sebashray scheme. The current proceedings are separate from those cases.

The court is expected to review the voice sample as part of its investigation into the alleged inflammatory remarks. Banerjee has maintained his cooperation with the legal process.
