27 Dead in Bangkok Pub Fire, Authorities Investigate Cause

A fire broke out at a pub in Bangkok early Monday morning, killing at least 27 people, according to Thai officials. The blaze, which started around midnight in the northern part of the Thai capital, was brought under control by firefighters after about half an hour.

Rescue workers reported that the fire quickly engulfed the building, with thick black smoke billowing into the sky. Footage shared by first responders showed flames raging from the front entrance as patrons attempted to flee. Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul confirmed the death toll and stated that several others were taken to hospitals. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Thailand has experienced similar tragedies in the past. In 2022, a fire at a music pub in the eastern part of the country killed 14 people. More than a decade earlier, in 2009, a New Year's Eve fire at the Santika nightclub in Bangkok claimed 66 lives and injured over 200, sparked by indoor fireworks.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident and provide support to the victims' families.
