Yogi Adityanath: Samajwadi Party Faces Wipeout in UP, Akhilesh Neglected Poor

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has predicted a complete defeat for the Samajwadi Party (SP) in the next state assembly elections. He also criticised SP chief Akhilesh Yadav, stating that the latter had ignored the needs of the poor.

Addressing a public gathering, Adityanath said that the Samajwadi Party, under the leadership of Akhilesh Yadav, had failed to address the concerns of the underprivileged sections of society. He asserted that the people of Uttar Pradesh have witnessed the developmental work undertaken by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government and would continue to support it in the upcoming polls.

Referring to Akhilesh Yadav as 'Babua', a term often used in a patronising manner, the Chief Minister remarked that the SP leadership remained disconnected from the ground realities. He claimed that the opposition party had consistently ignored the welfare of farmers, youth, and women during its tenure.

The remarks come amid rising political activity in Uttar Pradesh, with both the BJP and the Samajwadi Party gearing up for the next assembly elections. The SP has been attempting to consolidate opposition forces, while the BJP has highlighted its governance record and welfare schemes.

Political analysts note that Adityanath's comments are part of the BJP's campaign strategy to project the SP as an elitist and non-serious outfit. However, the Samajwadi Party has dismissed such accusations in the past, pointing to its own welfare initiatives for various communities.

The exact date of the next Uttar Pradesh assembly elections has not been announced, but they are expected to take place in 2027. Both parties have already begun organisational preparations and public outreach programmes.

Adityanath's prediction of an SP wipeout reflects the BJP's confidence in retaining power in the state, where it has been in office since 2017. The party secured a decisive victory in the 2022 elections, winning 255 seats in the 403-member assembly, while the SP won 111 seats.

In his speech, the Chief Minister also urged the electorate to focus on development and good governance rather than caste-based politics, which he accused the SP of perpetuating.

There has been no official response from the Samajwadi Party as of now. However, political observers suggest that the SP may counter by highlighting its track record and alliances with other opposition parties.

The upcoming elections are expected to witness a fierce contest, with the BJP aiming for a third consecutive term and the SP striving to regain lost ground.
