Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Blitz Helps India Crush Zimbabwe by 7 Wickets in Harare T20I

India registered a comprehensive seven-wicket victory over Zimbabwe in the first T20I at Harare Sports Club on Saturday, with opener Vaibhav Sooryavanshi smashing a blistering 50 off just 19 balls. The win marked Shreyas Iyer's first success as India's T20I captain after losing six of his previous seven matches in charge during tours of Ireland and England.

Opting to bowl first, India's new-look pace attack delivered a disciplined performance. Mayank Yadav and Prince Yadav both claimed two wickets, finishing with figures of 2/18 and 2/19 respectively, as Zimbabwe were restricted to a modest 125 for 7 in their allotted 20 overs. The hosts struggled to build partnerships, with only two batsmen crossing the 20-run mark.

In reply, India chased down the target with 40 balls to spare. Sooryavanshi launched a trademark assault on the Zimbabwean bowlers, racing to 50 in just 19 balls. He fell to Richard Ngarava in the seventh over, but by then India had already raced to 68 runs. The middle order, led by Iyer's unbeaten 23, ensured no further hiccups as India reached 128 for 3 in 13.2 overs.

The victory gives India a 1-0 lead in the five-match series. The second T20I is scheduled for Sunday at the same venue.
