Three held in Belagavi for carrying explosives, detonators on motorcycle
In a coordinated action, police in Mudalagi in Belagavi district of Karnataka arrested three persons on August 19 for allegedly possessing and transporting explosives without authorisation. The accused were intercepted near Harugeri Cross on the Nippani–Mudhol State Highway.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Yudhisthir Singh Karnim Singh Chundawat, a 21-year-old student resident of Ammana Nagar in Mudalagi, along with Roshan Jat and Prakash Chandanna Chata, both residents of Raibag. They were reportedly travelling on a motorcycle when police stopped them.
According to authorities, the trio was in possession of a significant quantity of explosive material. The seizure included 750 metres of diffuser wire valued at approximately ₹6,000, 200 gelatin sticks valued at ₹3,000, and 100 non-electric detonators valued at ₹3,000. The motorcycle used for transportation was also impounded.
A case has been registered at Mudalagi Police Station under Section 288 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, which deals with the possession of explosive substances with intent to endanger life or property, and Section 9(B) of the Explosives Act, 1884, which pertains to unauthorised possession and transportation of explosives. Investigations are currently underway to determine the source and intended use of the materials.
Explosives such as gelatin sticks and detonators are commonly used in mining and quarrying operations, but their possession and transport require proper licences and adherence to safety regulations. The arrest highlights the vigilance of local law enforcement in curbing illegal handling of hazardous materials in the region. Further details are awaited as the probe continues.
