Three Arrested in Ranchi RSS Office Attack, UAPA Invoked
Three individuals have been arrested in connection with the petrol bomb attack on the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) state office in Ranchi, Jharkhand, according to police officials on Thursday. The investigation has been transferred to the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) of the state police, and charges under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) have been filed.
The incident occurred shortly after midnight on June 17, when two men allegedly threw petrol bombs at the RSS office. No injuries were reported. Police formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) under the joint supervision of city and rural police officers to probe the attack.
Using CCTV footage and technical surveillance, the SIT identified the suspects. Two accused, identified as Saif Ansari and Aman Ansari alias Golu, were arrested near Gajhandi railway station in Koderma district while reportedly attempting to flee to another state. Based on their statements, a third accused, Sayam Sujan (21), was taken into custody in Ranchi.
Police are investigating possible links to a broader network. However, officials have not yet provided concrete evidence of an international module, as some media reports have suggested. The investigation is ongoing.
The UAPA, a law dealing with unlawful activities and terrorism, allows for extended detention and stringent bail conditions. Its invocation indicates the seriousness with which the authorities are treating the case.
The RSS, a cultural and volunteer organization, has called for a swift investigation. Local leaders have condemned the attack and urged peace.
