Tamil Nadu Police Ordered to Hold Open Grievance Days Every Wednesday and Saturday

The Director General of Police (DGP) and Head of Police Force (HoPF) of Tamil Nadu, Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal, has issued a directive requiring all police officers to conduct 'Open Grievance Day' every Wednesday and Saturday. The sessions will last for two hours, from 11 am to 1 pm, to ensure speedy and effective redressal of public grievances.

According to the order, officers of the rank of Station House Officers (SHOs), Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs), Superintendents of Police (SPs), Deputy Inspector Generals of Police (DIGs), Inspector Generals of Police (IGs), and Commissioners of Police in cities must be available in their offices during this period to address grievances from any member of the public who approaches the police.

The DGP stated that instructions have also been issued to ensure courteous treatment and prompt redressal of grievances within a specified time frame. This measure is intended to prevent people from waiting long to meet officers, as police personnel are often engaged in duties such as investigations, court appearances, meetings, and law and order bandobust (security) duties.

Officers have been directed to make every effort to be present during the designated hours. In case of an urgency that prevents their attendance, they must depute the next in command to handle the grievance session. The Police Headquarters will monitor the performance of officers in this regard, the DGP added.
