Tamil Nadu Assembly to Pass Resolution for Fair Financial Devolution, Governor Announces

Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, in his address to the Tamil Nadu Assembly on Thursday, announced that the House will pass a resolution demanding the state's due share of financial devolution from the taxes it contributes to the Union government.

The governor stated that a Special Legal Committee will be constituted to pursue the matter up to the Supreme Court to ensure fair financial devolution. He added that every rupee owed to Tamil Nadu will be properly documented, and a report detailing what he described as the Union government's 'discriminatory approach' toward financial devolution for the state will be published.

Governor Arlekar said the government will work diligently to press the Union government to safeguard Tamil Nadu's welfare, fight for state rights, implement required schemes, and create new infrastructure.

The governor also outlined plans for archaeological research at sites including Keeladi, Adichanallur, Kodumanal, Mayiladumparai, Sivagalai, Azhagankulam, Arikkamedu, Saluvankuppam, and Poompuhar. The government will seek UNESCO World Heritage Site recognition for Keeladi and Adichanallur, and arrange educational tours for schoolchildren. At Adichanallur, Kodumanal, and Gangaikonda Cholapuram, the Tamil civilisation experience will be recreated for tourists using augmented and virtual reality technologies.

Additionally, a comprehensive Sustainable Tourism Policy will be framed to preserve the state's natural resources and ecological balance. The governor said the government aims to transform Tamil Nadu into a global destination for heritage and eco-tourism through environmentally sustainable infrastructure.
