In a sharp retort, Thackeray asked, “If India is so great, why settle in Dubai?” The remark came during a public address, where he also waded into the ongoing controversy over Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s condemnation of abusive language in public discourse.

Thackeray’s comments appear to be aimed at the growing trend of Bollywood personalities acquiring residences or business interests in the United Arab Emirates, particularly Dubai.
