Supriya Sule: No NDA Alliance, NCP (SP) Undecided on Delimitation Bill
Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) leader Supriya Sule has categorically ruled out any possibility of her party joining the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). Speaking to reporters in Pune on Tuesday, Sule stated that the NCP (SP) remains firmly committed to its independent political identity and will not align with the ruling coalition.
When questioned about the party's stand on the proposed Delimitation Bill, which aims to redraw parliamentary and assembly constituencies based on the latest census, Sule said the party has not yet taken a formal decision. “We are yet to discuss the Delimitation Bill in detail within the party. Our leadership will decide after thorough deliberations,” she added.
The Delimitation Bill has been a subject of intense political debate, with several opposition parties expressing concerns that it could disproportionately affect certain regions and communities. The NCP (SP), which draws significant support from Maharashtra, is likely to play a key role in shaping the opposition's response.
Sule’s remarks come amid speculation that some NCP (SP) leaders might be open to a rapprochement with the BJP-led NDA. However, she dismissed such reports as baseless, reiterating the party’s commitment to secular and democratic values.
The NCP (SP) has been part of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance in Maharashtra, along with the Shiv Sena (UBT) and Congress. Sule’s statement reinforces the party’s position within the opposition bloc ahead of upcoming elections.
