CNG Prices Rise by Rs 3.89 Per Kg Across Delhi-NCR; Check City-Wise Rates
Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) has increased the price of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) by Rs 3.89 per kilogram across Delhi-NCR, with revised rates taking effect from 6 am on Saturday, August 29. The change adds to the financial burden on vehicle owners, particularly commercial drivers who depend on CNG daily.
According to the latest price list published on IGL's official website, the revised rates vary by city. In Noida and Ghaziabad, CNG now costs Rs 95.59 per kg, while Meerut sees a price of Rs 95.47 per kg. Motorists in Gurugram will pay Rs 92.01 per kg, and in Delhi, the price stands at Rs 86.98 per kg.
The increase represents a uniform revision of Rs 3.89 per kg for all these cities. Before this change, Noida and Ghaziabad had a price of Rs 91.70 per kg, while Gurugram's rate was Rs 88.12 per kg.
IGL attributed the price revision to higher international prices of liquefied natural gas (LNG). A significant share of the natural gas used as input for CNG is sourced through LNG imports, making domestic rates sensitive to fluctuations in the global market.
In its statement, the company said international LNG prices have remained elevated, and the rise in input costs necessitated a calibrated revision of Rs 3.89 per kg to partially offset the impact. The increase in global LNG prices has been linked to continuing tensions in West Asia, which have affected energy cargo movements through the Strait of Hormuz. Additionally, European demand for LNG ahead of the winter season has exerted further upward pressure on international prices.
The revised rates are expected to increase running costs for users of CNG-powered cars, auto-rickshaws, taxis, and commercial vehicles. CNG is widely used by passenger and goods transport operators across the National Capital Region. A sustained rise in fuel costs may also put pressure on transport and passenger fares in the area.
This is not the first time CNG prices have risen this year. In May, IGL had previously increased CNG prices by a total of Rs 6 per kg in four phases, citing higher global energy costs. The cumulative effect of these increases underscores the volatility of the international energy market and its direct impact on domestic fuel prices.
For consumers and businesses relying on CNG, the latest hike adds to operational expenses. However, the company has emphasised that the revision is a measured step to manage input costs while ensuring continued supply. As global energy dynamics remain uncertain, further price movements cannot be ruled out.
The government has not announced any immediate intervention to absorb the price increase. Meanwhile, commuters and transport operators are left to adjust their budgets to the new rates.
