Southwest Monsoon Covers Entire India After One-Day Delay, Triggers Heavy Rains
The Southwest Monsoon has officially covered the entire country, one day after its scheduled completion, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The monsoon's advance into the remaining regions of Rajasthan, Haryana, and Punjab marks its full coverage over India. This development follows the influence of a well-marked low-pressure area over Southwest Uttar Pradesh and surrounding regions, which is driving significant rainfall activity.
Heavy rains have led to waterlogging in several parts of Delhi-NCR, causing traffic disruptions and delays for commuters. In Delhi, multiple neighbourhoods reported standing water on roads, affecting morning travel. Similar conditions were reported in parts of Uttar Pradesh, where authorities have advised caution.
The IMD has warned of continued rainfall activity across northern and central India over the next few days, with a yellow alert issued for several districts. The monsoon's onset had been delayed by a day due to weaker systems earlier in the season, but the recent low-pressure area has accelerated its progress.
No casualties have been officially reported as of the latest update, though local news sources had earlier mentioned incidents in Uttar Pradesh. The IMD urges residents in affected areas to stay informed and avoid unnecessary travel during heavy downpours.
