Ram Temple Committee Chair Calls Donation Allegations 'Disgraceful', Pledges Management Reforms
Ayodhya, July 11: Nripendra Mishra, Chairman of the Ram Temple Construction Committee, described the alleged donation theft at the Ayodhya temple as a disgraceful blot and expressed feelings of humiliation among those associated with the project. Speaking to reporters ahead of the committee's second day of meetings, Mishra stated that the incident had left everyone feeling let down and apologetic.
Mishra, who has previously advocated for the appointment of a chief executive officer (CEO) for the temple trust, confirmed that a high-level committee has been formed to suggest suitable candidates. Speculation that the trust might consider a woman CEO was not addressed by Mishra, who noted that a retired judge heads the selection committee and will submit recommendations to the trust.
The controversy led to the resignations of temple trust general secretary Champat Rai and trustee Anil Mishra. The trust is scheduled to meet again on July 22 to discuss measures to improve temple management and prevent similar incidents.
Regarding construction progress, Mishra reported that work on the old temple, being developed as a memorial, is nearly complete, with only the installation of a perpetual flame remaining. The main memorial structure is expected to be finished by the end of July. However, ancillary projects such as a 4-kilometre boundary wall and an auditorium outside the temple complex may be completed by November or December.
Mishra also mentioned the Ram Katha Museum, which will feature 20 galleries. The storyline has been finalised, and decisions on video content will be made during the current meetings. Krishna Mohan, the interim general secretary of the trust, attended the committee's meeting on Friday.
The alleged donation theft has raised questions about financial oversight at the temple, which has received substantial public contributions. Mishra's comments underscore the temple management's commitment to addressing the issue and restoring public trust.
