Qatar’s Amir Condoles Deaths of 12 Indians in Ras Laffan Explosion, Modi Responds
Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a phone call from the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, who expressed grief over the deaths of Indian nationals in a tragic accident at the Ras Laffan Industrial City in Qatar.
Twelve Indians were among 13 people killed in an explosion at an LNG facility operated by QatarEnergy LNG in the Ras Laffan Industrial City on Sunday night. The blast also injured 66 people, including several Indians.
In a post on social media platform X, PM Modi stated, “I thank His Highness the Amir of Qatar for his phone call and condolences on the loss of lives of Indian nationals in the tragic accident at Ras Laffan Industrial City in Qatar.” He added that both leaders share the grief of the families who lost loved ones and pray for the speedy recovery of the injured.
PM Modi emphasised the strong bilateral ties, saying, “India and Qatar remain steadfast in their commitment to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our citizens and stand in solidarity with each other.”
Citing Qatari authorities, the Indian mission confirmed that all injured individuals are in stable condition and receiving appropriate medical treatment. The explosion occurred at a local gas supply facility within the industrial complex, which is a major hub for Qatar’s energy sector.
