Protesters at Jantar Mantar Continue Sit-In Despite Lack of Permission on Second Day

By around 3:30 pm on Sunday — a day after a protest group began a demonstration at Jantar Mantar — many participants, who had been at the site since Saturday morning and had camped overnight, showed signs of fatigue. The harsh summer sun and lack of shade caused some to become restless and disperse.

Then a rendition of 'Vande Mataram' by A. R. Rahman played over the speakers, lifting the mood. The crowd gathered near the stage as tracks like 'Hindustani' and 'Chak De India' followed, helping protesters shed their exhaustion. Abhijeet Dipke, the founder of the group, urged the protesters to remain at Jantar Mantar until Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigns. On Sunday, they appeared determined to continue for the long haul, despite not having received permission for a second day of protests.
