PM Modi to Inaugurate Bhogapuram International Airport on August 1, CM Naidu Says It Will Transform Region

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the Bhogapuram International Airport on August 1, according to an announcement by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. The Chief Minister, who reviewed final preparations for the event at a high-level meeting, stated that the airport is poised to reshape the local economic landscape.

Mr. Naidu emphasised that the project, conceptualised during the Telugu Desam Party’s (TDP) tenure between 2014 and 2019 and expedited by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) coalition government, serves as a cornerstone for the future development of the North Andhra region. He drew a parallel to the impact of the Shamshabad International Airport on Hyderabad, noting that Bhogapuram is expected to act as a primary driver for tourism, industrial expansion, and general economic activity.

Beyond immediate connectivity, the project is framed as a pivotal element of the broader Visakhapatnam Economic Region. Mr. Naidu noted that the synergy between new infrastructure—including highways, ports, and irrigation projects—and the airport will unlock significant employment and livelihood opportunities, driving unprecedented growth for the region.

During the review meeting, the Chief Minister directed officials to ensure the inauguration reflects the artistic and cultural identity of Andhra Pradesh. The planning meeting was attended by key officials and political leaders, including Union Minister K. Rammohan Naidu, State Ministers Nadendla Manohar, Satya Kumar Yadav, K. Atchannaidu, and Vangalapudi Anitha. Also in attendance were BJP State president P.V.N. Madhav, Chief Secretary G. Sai Prasad, and Director General of Police Harish Kumar Gupta.
