NEET-UG Re-test: PM Modi Spends Time at Delhi Airport to Interact with Students
On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made an unscheduled stop at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport, where he interacted with students travelling for the NEET-UG re-examination. The Prime Minister, who was himself en route to a rally in Uttar Pradesh, spent about 20 minutes at the airport terminal, speaking with young aspirants and their families.
The NEET-UG re-test was ordered by the Supreme Court after irregularities were found in the original examination conducted in May 2022. The re-test, held on September 4, aims to ensure a fair selection process for medical and dental admissions across the country.
Eyewitnesses reported that the PM approached groups of students, asked about their preparation, and exchanged a few words. Some students expressed surprise and delight at the unexpected interaction. However, no official statement from the Prime Minister's Office was issued about the visit.
The gesture was widely shared on social media, with many users appreciating the PM's accessibility. Others, however, questioned the necessity of the stop, given the security arrangements involved. The airport authorities confirmed that the PM's impromptu visit did not disrupt flight schedules.
This incident occurs amidst ongoing debates about the conducting agency's accountability for the initial exam irregularities. The government has defended its handling of the re-test process, while opposition parties have criticized the delay in resolving the issue.
