Parliament Day 14: Finance Minister to Move Taxation Amendment Bill for Debate

The passage of this Bill is a formality required to regularise government spending, but it has drawn attention as part of the wider budgetary scrutiny.

The day's proceedings unfold against the backdrop of efforts to resolve a parliamentary deadlock. On Wednesday, August 5, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju met with Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, in an attempt to break the impasse. The two leaders discussed the proposed delimitation Bill and the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment (FCRA) Bill, 2026, both of which have been contentious. While no official statement was issued after the meeting, sources indicated that talks were cordial but inconclusive, with further discussions expected.

The delimitation Bill is a politically sensitive issue, as it involves redrawing parliamentary and assembly constituencies based on population changes. Opposition parties have expressed concerns that it could alter the electoral balance, particularly affecting southern states.
