NEET UG 2026: Round 1 Seat Allotment Result Now on August 21, Says MCC
The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has revised the schedule for the first round of NEET UG 2026 counselling. According to an official announcement, the Round 1 seat allotment result will now be released on August 21, 2026, instead of the earlier announced date of August 19. Candidates can check the result and merit list on the official website mcc.nic.in.
The counselling process for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (Undergraduate) began on August 5, 2026. The MCC had earlier extended the choice-filling window for Round 1 until August 18. This revision comes as part of a broader updated schedule issued by the committee on August 13. As per the latest timeline, candidates who are allotted seats will need to report to their assigned institutions between August 22 and August 31, 2026.
The NEET UG counselling is a centralised process through which undergraduate medical seats are allocated to candidates based on their merit rank and preferences. After the release of Round 1 results, candidates who are not allotted any seat will automatically become eligible for the next round of counselling. Those who do receive an allotment can choose to either freeze the seat or float it, depending on their preference for higher options in subsequent rounds.
In a notable change introduced by the MCC, candidates who opt for upgradation in future rounds are no longer required to physically report to the allotted institute. This move is aimed at reducing the burden on candidates and streamlining the process.
Medical education authorities have urged candidates to keep checking the official MCC website for updates and to complete any pending formalities within the stipulated deadlines. It is important to note that this schedule applies to the All India Quota seats. State quota counselling is conducted separately by respective state authorities.
The NEET UG examination is the gateway for admission to undergraduate medical and dental courses in India, including MBBS, BDS, and other allied programmes. The counselling process is critical for lakhs of aspirants every year. Any delay or revision in the schedule can have significant implications for candidates, many of whom plan their academic and personal calendars around these dates.
The MCC has not provided a reason for the latest delay, but such adjustments are not uncommon in a process involving multiple stakeholders, including medical colleges, state authorities, and technical systems. The committee has assured that all efforts are being made to ensure a smooth and transparent allotment process.
Candidates are advised to verify their details on the portal and retain their login credentials for future reference. They should also be cautious of unofficial sources and rely only on the official MCC website for authentic information regarding results and counselling rounds.
The revised schedule for Round 1 reporting is expected to be followed by subsequent rounds, the dates for which will be announced in due course. Candidates who have questions or face technical issues can reach out to the MCC helpline through the official platform.
