Nandyal Collector, SP Participate in Yogandhra-2026 Yoga Session, Advocate Daily Practice

District Collector Rajakumari Gania and Superintendent of Police Sunil Shoran participated in a special yoga session under the Yogandhra programme held at the Nandyal Indoor Stadium on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, ahead of the International Day of Yoga on June 21.

The event was organised by the Yogandhra Associations as part of the Andhra Pradesh government’s Yogandhra-2026 initiative, which aims to integrate yoga into the daily lives of citizens for improved health and well-being. Joint Collector Suraj Dhanunjay and other senior district officials also joined the session, demonstrating the administration’s commitment to public health.

Qualified yoga instructors led the participants through a series of asanas (postures), pranayama (breathing techniques), and meditation practices. The session was designed to cater to all age groups, with modifications offered for beginners. The indoor stadium was filled with yoga practitioners, school and college students, youth, government employees, representatives of voluntary organisations, and residents of Nandyal town, all performing the exercises with visible enthusiasm.

After the session, Collector Rajakumari Gania addressed the gathering, highlighting the multiple benefits of yoga. She said, “Yoga is not just physical exercise; it is a holistic practice that enhances mental clarity, reduces stress, and improves concentration. By dedicating a small portion of our day to yoga, we can significantly boost our overall health and productivity.” Superintendent of Police Sunil Shoran echoed her sentiments, adding that regular yoga practice can help law enforcement personnel and citizens alike manage the pressures of daily life and maintain a positive mindset.

The officers urged everyone present to commit to a daily yoga routine, emphasising that consistency is key to reaping long-term benefits. They also noted that the state government’s Yogandhra-2026 initiative aims to establish yoga centres and organise regular camps in villages and urban areas to ensure accessibility for all.

The United Nations declared June 21 as the International Day of Yoga in 2014, following a proposal by India. Since then, governments across the country have intensified efforts to promote yoga as a tool for public health. The Andhra Pradesh government’s Yogandhra-2026 is one such state-level initiative that seeks to harness this ancient practice for modern-day wellness challenges.

The Yogandhra-2026 programme was launched earlier this year by the state government with the goal of making Andhra Pradesh a hub for yoga and wellness. It includes free training camps, workshops, and large-scale events like the one in Nandyal. The initiative also focuses on incorporating yoga into school curricula and public health policies.

Participants expressed appreciation for the event, with many stating that they felt energised and relaxed after the session. Students who attended said that such programmes helped them deal with exam stress and improve focus. Volunteers from local organisations pledged to spread awareness about yoga’s benefits in their communities.

The district administration has announced that similar events will be conducted in other parts of the district in the coming weeks, with special sessions planned for International Yoga Day on June 21. Officials hope that these efforts will contribute to a healthier and more mindful society.
