Nagpur: Over 150 Detained in Protest Over Delhi Crackdown and Exam Leaks
NAGPUR: More than 150 people were detained by police in Nagpur on Thursday after a protest near Samvidhan Square. The demonstrators were demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over a series of exam question paper leaks and subsequent student suicides.
The protesters, shouting slogans and holding placards, were also condemning the recent crackdown on a march to Parliament in Delhi on Monday. According to police, no formal permission was obtained for the protest held on Thursday.
The protest was organised by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), which has been calling for Mr. Pradhan's resignation. The CJP's campaign has gained traction in several cities across India, with similar protests occurring in response to the Delhi incident.
Nagpur has been one of the cities where protests have broken out following the Delhi march. The police confirmed that the detentions were made to maintain public order and that those detained were taken to a local police station for questioning.
