MSRTC Extends 10% Bus Fare Hike Till July 31 Amid Rising Diesel Costs
The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has extended its temporary 10% fare hike on ordinary bus services until July 31. The extension, announced on July 15, comes as the state-run transporter continues to face financial strain from rising diesel prices.
The fare increase was first implemented on April 15, initially scheduled to end on June 15. It was then extended to July 15 before the latest extension. MSRTC has directed all divisional controllers, regional managers, and other officials to enforce the decision with immediate effect.
According to MSRTC officials, the extension is necessary to offset operational losses. The corporation reports that 21 of its 31 divisions are operating at a loss, including those in Kolhapur, Nashik, Nanded, and Solapur. The rising cost of diesel, a major expense for the transporter, has contributed to the financial pressure.
The decision affects passengers traveling on ordinary buses across the state. MSRTC has not indicated whether further extensions or permanent fare revisions are under consideration.
