NIT Rourkela Sees 1,340 Job Offers; Top BTech Package Rs 1.31 Crore

National Institute of Technology (NIT) Rourkela has concluded its 2025-26 placement season, recording a total of 1,340 job offers from companies across various sectors. The institute also received 364 six-month internship offers, which provide students with an opportunity to secure pre-placement offers (PPOs) upon successful completion of their internships.

The placement drive saw participation from 374 recruiters, with nearly half of them being first-time recruiters at the institute. This reflects growing confidence in the quality of NIT Rourkela's graduates. The majority of participating companies were from the software and IT services sector, followed by manufacturing, BFSI (banking, financial services, and insurance), electronics, and education.

For BTech students, the highest annual package offered was Rs 1.31 crore. Students from computer science and engineering (CSE) received packages of up to Rs 83.60 lakh per year. The BTech programme recorded an average CTC of Rs 15.33 lakh and a median CTC of Rs 12.50 lakh, indicating robust compensation across the cohort.

MTech students also received strong offers. The highest MTech package was Rs 46.38 lakh per year, offered to a student from CSE, followed by a Rs 44 lakh package for a student from electronics and communication engineering. The average and median CTC for the MTech programme stood at Rs 11.90 lakh and Rs 9 lakh, respectively.

More than 83 students received annual packages exceeding Rs 30 lakh during this placement season, highlighting the demand for specialised engineering skills.

NIT Rourkela, one of India's premier technical institutions, has consistently maintained a strong placement record. The institute's placement cell coordinates with national and international companies to provide students with opportunities across diverse industries. The significant number of internship offers also underscores the growing trend of companies using internships as a pipeline for talent acquisition.

The participation of a large number of first-time recruiters. With 50 per cent of the 374 recruiters being new to NIT Rourkela, this season indicates an expanding base of employers interested in the institute's graduates. This diversification is a positive sign for future placement seasons, as it reduces reliance on any single sector or company.

Industry experts note that the strong performance in software and IT services is aligned with national hiring trends, but the presence of manufacturing, BFSI, electronics, and education firms speaks to the versatility of the curriculum and the adaptability of students. The average and median CTC figures also provide a realistic picture of compensation levels for prospective students and their families.

As the 2025-26 placement season comes to a close, the institute is already preparing for the next cycle. The data from this year will serve as a benchmark for measuring progress and for guiding students in their career preparations. For now, the numbers from NIT Rourkela offer a promising outlook for engineering graduates in India.
