MP Minister's 'Kafir' Remark: Don't Use Roads Built by 'Kafirs', He Says
Madhya Pradesh Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya has ignited a controversy after stating that those who label representatives as 'Kafirs' should refrain from using roads built by them or availing government welfare schemes.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader made the remarks on Sunday while inaugurating development works worth approximately Rs 2.4 crore in his Indore constituency, which included road cementing and drainage projects. Referring to members of the Muslim community, Vijayvargiya said such individuals should not benefit from public infrastructure and welfare schemes provided by governments led by those they call 'Kafirs'.
'This road is being built here. I saw that both Hindu and Muslim brothers live here. Many Muslim brothers call us 'Kafirs'. If we are Kafirs and we have built the road, then don't walk on it, brother,' Vijayvargiya said.
The term 'Kafir' is often used in Islamic contexts to refer to non-believers, and its usage by the minister has drawn sharp criticism from opposition parties and Muslim groups, who accuse him of promoting communal division. Critics argue that such remarks violate the constitutional ethos of secularism and equal treatment under the law.
Vijayvargiya's comments come amid ongoing political debates about religious identity and public welfare. The minister has not issued any clarification or apology for his statement as of now.
