Maharashtra Teacher Eligibility Test Postponed Amid Paper Leak Allegations
The Maharashtra State Examination Council on Saturday announced the postponement of the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) 2026, citing suspicions of a paper leak. The examination was scheduled to be held on Sunday at 1,028 centres across the state.
“This decision has been taken to make the examination transparent,” a government press release issued on Saturday afternoon stated.
The Opposition has criticised the government and called for a thorough investigation into the alleged leak, expressing concern over the incident. “Why is the government not capable of holding a single exam transparently? Why is it playing with the lives of our youth? If the government does not act strictly, we will hit the streets,” said Maharashtra Congress president Harshawardhan Sapkal.
The decision to postpone the exam was taken after confidential reports of an alleged paper leak emerged from Bhiwandi in Thane district. The Bhiwandi police conducted raids and carried out an investigation, officials said.
“Officials of the Maharashtra State Examination Council were immediately called to the spot. They verified the seized papers. During the investigation, it was observed that some of the questions found with the relevant persons and the questions in the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) June 2026 question paper were the same. A case has been registered in this regard at Bhiwandi Police Station,” an official statement from the government said.
The new date for the TET examination and other updated information will be published on the official website of the Maharashtra State Examination Council.
