Luxury High-Rise in Greater Noida: Resident's Video Raises Water, Power Concerns
A video shared by a resident of a luxury high-rise in Greater Noida has sparked discussions on social media about living conditions in expensive residential societies. In the Instagram video, Sweety, a resident of a 19th-floor flat, shows the panoramic views, swimming pool, and other amenities of her society, which she says has flats priced above Rs 2 crore.
However, Sweety claimed that despite the high property prices and luxury facilities, residents struggle with basic necessities like water and electricity. She said water is often unavailable from taps, forcing residents to store water and depend on daily tanker supplies. Highlighting the irony, she pointed out that the society's swimming pool remains full even as residents face shortages at home. According to her, the water situation has become so severe that some residents use the society's club washrooms on weekends instead of their own bathrooms.
The resident also alleged that the society experiences power cuts lasting five to six hours, along with frequent voltage fluctuations. She said these fluctuations had damaged her RO purifier twice in a month and caused her microwave to stop working. In the video's caption, she wrote, "There's no water in the taps, but the swimming pool is full."
Sweety said the problems have made her rethink the decision to move into a high-rise. She mentioned that her family had sold their builder's flat in Vaishali and their village house to buy this property. Now, facing these issues, they are considering moving back to a builder-floor property.
The video has prompted many social media users to question whether expensive high-rise homes necessarily ensure better living conditions. Some shared their own experiences of water and electricity problems in residential societies. One user commented, "Reality of most high-rises in NCR. Lived for about 12 years (still living) but never chose to live in so-called societies ever, worse living conditions… always rented bigger RWA/Sector wale ghar.. 24 hrs govt. water & least electricity issues." Another wrote, "Noida and its high-rise residential buildings are a scam, the sooner you know that, the better."
These claims come amid broader concerns about infrastructure in Noida and Greater Noida, areas that have seen rapid real estate development in recent years. While the video highlights specific grievances, there has been no independent verification of the resident's statements. Local authorities and the society's management have not yet responded to the allegations.
The debate underscores a growing issue in many Indian cities, where luxury developments promise premium amenities but may fall short on essential services. As more families invest their savings into such properties, questions about transparency and accountability in real estate become increasingly important.
