Karnataka explores AI partnership with Anthropic to enhance citizen services

The Karnataka government is exploring a potential collaboration with Anthropic India, the Indian arm of the California-based AI safety and research company, to leverage artificial intelligence for public good and improve citizen-centric services.

On Saturday, Priyank Kharge, Minister for Home, Electronics, IT & BT and Centre for e-Governance (CeG), met Irina Ghose, Managing Director of Anthropic India, to discuss the state’s AI vision and opportunities for strategic partnership. The talks centred on Karnataka’s transition from e-governance to intelligence-driven governance, or i-governance, by using AI to build more responsive, efficient, and citizen-friendly systems.

“Our engagement with Anthropic is an opportunity to explore meaningful collaboration across skilling, research, start-ups and AI-led governance, while building sustainable and scalable models that can create long-term public value,” said Mr. Kharge. He added that Karnataka’s AI vision focuses on building advanced capabilities, strengthening the state’s innovation ecosystem, and harnessing technology to improve governance and services.

The discussions also covered designing sustainable and scalable AI programmes for government and citizens, strengthening collaboration between start-ups and Global Capability Centres (GCCs) through mentorship, co-creation, and deeper engagement with Karnataka’s existing DeepTech start-up ecosystem. Topics included building future-ready AI skillsets, forging partnerships for skilling, and establishing Centres of Excellence and incubators to boost AI research, innovation, and entrepreneurship in the state.

Avinash Menon Rajendran, Managing Director of the Karnataka Innovation and Technology Society (KITS), was also present at the meeting.
