Indian-designed chips to power CCTV cameras in boost for self-reliance

Mindgrove Technologies, based at the IIT Madras Research Park, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Prama India Private Limited to deploy indigenously designed chips in CCTV surveillance cameras and advanced video security systems.

The partnership marks one of the largest commercial integrations of Indian-designed silicon to date. Under the agreement, Prama will integrate Mindgrove’s proprietary Vision SoC (system-on-chip) across its video surveillance and security product portfolio. The chip is the company’s second such development and has been funded under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology’s (MeitY) Design Linked Incentive (DLI) scheme. The collaboration will also involve joint design and development efforts.

Shashwath TR, Co-founder and CEO of Mindgrove Technologies, said that the engagement validates their Vision SoC as a production-ready platform capable of meeting performance, reliability, and scale requirements in real-world security systems. The collaboration comes at a time when India is strengthening efforts to reduce dependence on imported chipsets, particularly in sensitive sectors like security and surveillance.

Ashish P. Dhakan, Managing Director & CEO of Prama India, said the collaboration will help build strategic capabilities within India’s semiconductor ecosystem, foster innovation, strengthen supply-chain resilience, and support the government’s Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India) vision in critical technology sectors.

The DLI scheme, launched by the central government, aims to encourage domestic design of semiconductor chips and reduce reliance on foreign imports. The integration of Indian-designed chips in security systems is seen as a step towards enhancing national security and technological sovereignty.
